Disadvantages of Solar Power

Solar energy is gathered from the sun. It has been used for hundreds of years from a variety of evolving technologies. Many people today believe that solar energy is a life saviour from the constant pollution of the planet. Many people also think that solar energy is far better than non-renewable energy which is causing global warming.

Solar energy is gathered from the sun. It has been used for hundreds of years from a variety of evolving technologies. Many people today believe that solar energy is a life saviour from the constant pollution of the planet. Many people also think that solar energy is far better than non-renewable energy which is causing global warming.

Although people believe that solar energy has many benefits, it also has a number of disadvantages. Fortunately, the advantages outweigh the drawbacks but this article will explain about the disadvantages of using solar energy.

1) Solar Energy is Expensive

One of the disadvantages of solar energy is that the cost of solar energy is high. This includes purchasing and installing solar panels in your home. Although the prices of solar panels have dropped significantly, there is still a lack of people buying them because they simply haven’t got the money. This is true when you also look at the current recession where jobs are being lost and the prices of fuel and gas are rising. Nevertheless, these same reasons may actually be the reason why people want to switch to renewable energy where they can save extra money. On the other hand, spending hundreds of pounds for solar energy might even save you hundreds of pounds forever looking at how an upfront payment can save you money for a whole lifetime. Thus, you may want to conclude that the investment is well worth the money being saved.

2) Plenty of Sunlight is Required

Living in inner cities can be a problem if you’re hoping to use solar energy for your home. Homes which are surrounded by many trees and buildings fail to harness enough sunlight to generate the electricity required. On the other hand, solar panels have to be installed in an adequate space to generate enough electricity or it will not produce much electricity at all.

If not space, then weather may be a problem. The further north you live, the less sunlight you are likely to receive. This is true when the winter season arrives. Throughout the day, sunlight is very little in the northern parts of Europe and will generate very little or no electricity. In some regions of the world, rain or cloud usually reduces most of the sunlight throughout the entire seasons which add more energy problems. The best location for generating enough electricity is further down to the south near the equator where sunlight hits the surface throughout the entire year. But are you willing to move down south to use solar energy?

3) Inefficient Power

Most solar panels harness less than half of the sun’s energy that hits the solar panels. This means that over half of the energy is wasted. Although your solar panels may work at its best in direct sunlight, they will not harness all of the energy which could have improved performance.

Conclusion

Overall, solar power can be a great benefit if you’re hoping to save some money from your monthly bills and help heal the planet from carbon emissions. But the disadvantages are there for you to decide if you wish to switch to solar energy or stay with non-renewable gas and fuel.

Our local power company was giving credits to people who bought solar and they stopped doing that. Which caused even less incentive for people to pay for solar.
